Drop D Pedal Point Riffing

Hello everybody, and welcome to the latest lesson. As many of you might have noticed, I have now upgraded to a brilliant new video camera in the Canon HV40, so I am able to record in high definition now, which is great. I have also changed the way in which I record the audio, which is now taken care of through a Line6 Toneport UX-1 using a shotgun microphone that I picked up on eBay. All in all I'd say it's a vast improvement over my previous videos, and a step in the right direction.

Practice Tips

  • In relation to the guitar, a Pedal Point simply involves a note that (often) starts a riff or lick and is returned to throughout, interspersed with a variety of scale tones. Open strings make perfect pedal tones as is exemplified by the intro riff to Stockholm Syndrome by Muse.
